The circumstances surrounding the killing of a fox that took place on New Year’s Day following a meet of the Fitzwilliam Hunt is being investigated by Cambridgeshire police. The hunt had met at the Haycock Hotel in Wandsford and at 2pm the police were alerted to the death of the fox. Sergeant Dave Walker said: “An investigation has been launched to establish whether the killing was lawful or not, and we have been speaking with a number of independent witnesses as well as participants of the hunt and saboteurs. We are taking this matter seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation to establish whether a crime has been committed or not”. The Hunt Saboteurs Association passed footage of the incident to the police and claimed that the fox had been disemboweled. Spokesman Lee Moon said: “We look forward to a robust investigation”.
